The first If I Can’t Dance Tonight featured Jon Mikel Euba. Euba is fascinated by the performance of rockstars and has developed a series of videoworks of people interpreting these gestures and poses. During this Tonight event his One Minute works were shown, accompanied by a conversation between Jon Mikel Euba and curator/writer Peio Aguirre.
The evening was concluded with a contribution by Melanie Bonajo and a futuristic folkloric dance with the audience, directed by Voin de Voin.
Voin de Voin (1978) is a performance artist. He studied visual arts, film and theatre. Voin de Voin just finished the Performing Arts section at Dasarts Institute for Advanced Studies in Amsterdam. His work was shown in European festivals, such as the Melbourn Art Festival, Dumbo Arts festival (New York), Nylo – The Living Art Museum and many others.
Melanie Bonajo (1978) lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy as well as at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In addition to being a photographer, she co-ordinates artistic projects. Between 2004 and 2006 she was the co-editor of Capricious photo magazine, and has had several solo exhibitions as well as participated in numerous group exhibitions in Europe and beyond.
