On 21 May, Matti Braun talks about Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme. In this lecture-performance Braun looks at how Sarabhai was an inspiration for the writing of director Satyajit Ray’s filmscript The Alien. Through a consideration of cultural developments and productions of the Indian modern movement in the twentieth century, Braun situates the figure of Sarabhai in relation Satyajjt Ray and his un-filmed screen-play about an alien that lands in outer space into an Indian village and befriends a local child.
