For the March session, the workshop will be based on a new text written by Jon Mikel Euba, entitled Types of Hands. Notes by a ‘Capturista’ on the relationship between drawing and writing. The text has been translated from Spanish to English into audio recordings, which will in turn be translated by the students split into pairs, into movement and gestures.
The workshop will with also include a collective reading and translation of two texts – one by a writer, and one by a visual artist – that provide examples of “pre-writing”, and if time allows, the screening of a short film that takes the form of a proposal for or explanation of a work to be made.
ACTION UNITES, WORDS DIVIDE (ON PRAXIS, AN UNSTATED THEORY) is a yearlong course conceived by artist Jon Mikel Euba at the invitation of and curated by If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution. The course is coordinated by If I Can't Dance curator Susan Gibb.
