Across the opening week of SONSBEEK ’16: transACTION, the Dutch Art Institute will take up residence in Sonsbeek Park, Arnhem. At a regular morning rhythm across the week, the students within If I Can’t Dance’s course ACTION UNITES, WORDS DIVIDE (ON PRAXIS, AN UNSTATED THEORY) will work with their core tutor, artist Jon Mikel Euba, and If I Can't Dance curator Susan Gibb, to further their work with devised exercises on scores, notations, translations, literalness and equivalences, which they have been engaging with across the academic year. This will culminate in them hosting an open class on 5 June 2016 from 9 – 11 am, in which interested members of the public are invited to join, and in which a new lecture by Jon Mikel Euba and outcomes of the exercises will be presented.
The participating students are: Astarti Athanasiadou, Giulia Crispiani, Kristinn Guðmundsson, Maike Hemmers, Martha Jager, Hannah Kindler, Dimitra Kondylatou, Malcolm Kratz, larose, Jammie Nicholas, Panagiotis Panagiotakopoulos, Mathilde Sauzet, Joy M. Smith, and Melissa Tun Tun.
The course will be concluded by a public moment presented sometime in the hour prior to and the proximity of the DAI’s monthly Roaming Assembly, which for will be held on 5 June at 2pm within the artist Richard Bell’s Aboriginal Embassy. ACTION UNITES, WORDS DIVIDE (ON PRAXIS, AN UNSTATED THEORY) is a yearlong course conceived by artist Jon Mikel Euba at the invitation of and curated by If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution. The course is coordinated by If I Can't Dance curator Susan Gibb.
