In the June session of the Amsterdam Reading Group, we return to the art appropriation scene of the crime, as it were, with two texts by Craig Owens; in part as preparation for the focus on 'voicing' within the Summer Open Reading Group; The Allegorical Impulse: Toward a Theory of Postmodernism (1980) and The Discourse of Others: Feminists and Postmodernism (1983). During this session we intend to discuss appropriation in relation to Owens' usage of the term allegory, and return to consider the notion of dedication as well.
