To celebrate the tenth year of If I Can’t Dance, a Dancing Group was established to pay homage to Emma Goldman’s famous quote, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution”, from which we take our name and continue to draw inspiration to explore critical and celebratory dimensions in contemporary performance, curatorial, and theoretical practices. For its inaugural year, the Dancing Group has been led by the Amsterdam-based choreographer, Michele Rizzo, who extended and shared his research into and experience of club dancing by devising a new choreography, which the group was invited to learn and interpret. As part of If I Can’t Dance’s
Finale for Edition VI – Event and Duration (2015 – 2016), the Dancing Group will host an evening session at the Dokzaal in Plantage Dok, which will be open to public participation. No previous dance experience is required.
