If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution invites you to join us at Emma’s for the launch and a reading of Snejanka Mihaylova’s poster on Sunday 26 January at 5pm.
The poster presents the introductory chapter of Mihaylova’s
forthcoming publication in the form of a signature print of 100 copies.
The development of her publication takes place over time, in tandem with
the various stages of the project Inner Stage, and attempts to
forge a closer bond between publishing and performance. As a piece of
merchandise the poster assumes its own economy. Purchasing the poster
allows further chapters of the book to be produced.
The poster is on sale for EUR 30,-. It will also be on display and for sale at gallery Ellen de
Bruijne Projects from 28 January – 22 February, as part of their current
Performance Exhibition programme.
The poster is made in response to If I Can’t Dance’s invitation to
its commissioned artists to produce a piece of merchandise and consider
the role of materiality and economy within performance practice. It is
produced in collaboration with graphic designer Phil Baber and artist
Jeff Weber.
This presentation is one of several upcoming gatherings with the
artists of Edition V – Appropriation and Dedication (2013-2014),
including Gerry Bibby, Sara van der Heide, and Emily Roysdon. For these
occasions If I Can’t Dance’s Offices are dubbed Emma’s, in honour of Emma Goldman, whose inspirational words gave our organization its name.
Last December Mihaylova engaged in a month-long residency and
research period at the art initiative Beirut in Cairo, where she also
lead a three-day seminar on voicing and listening. For an impression of
the seminar in images and writing, visit her online dossier.
