1. Curator Inti Guerrero is conducting research into Flávio de Carvalho (1899–1973) for Performance in Residence. Brazilian artist and architect Flávio de Carvalho is perhaps best known for his Experiências (1931–1956), a series of performances avant-la-lettre that he carried out on the streets of São Paolo.

With Experiência no. 3, de Carvalho publically launched his tropical futuristic clothing, designed for the contemporary office worker. The ‘New Look’ that he personally modeled on the streets consisted of a miniskirt and short sleeved blouse that was separated from the body by a corseting structure, to improve air circulation and prevent sweat from soaking the clothes.

Departing from the Experiências, Inti Guerrero will specifically focus his research on the relations between the body, the psyche and architectural space in de Carvalho’s projects. A theatrical presentation marks the beginning of Inti Guerrero’s research period and will take place on 19 April 2011 at Frascati Theatre in Amsterdam.
