This publication is one of four volumes presenting the performance commissions developed within If I Can't Dance's Edition V – Appropriation and Dedication (2013–2014).
By Any Other Name/ Uncounted* marks a temporal turn within Emily Roysdon’s thought and work. Following the territorial impasses of the Occupy movement in New York, Roysdon questioned what it might mean to claim and occupy time as a gesture both within private experience and in institutional constructions. Throughout the phases of the project Roysdon deployed the novel term ‘discomposition’ in order to access a zone in which to work, to create, and above all in which to collaborate. The performance consisted of a cast of accomplices presenting a textual score; spoken, sung and otherwise voiced aloud. The piece took place on an ongoing basis, weaving through events at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Playground Festival Leuven and If I Can’t Dance’s Performance Days in Amsterdam in November 2015. Emily Roysdon's volume includes the original textual score to her new performance.
